Today was our first day back at work after Christmas break. Jeffrey and I both had a work day. Sloane had a play date at a friend's house. I accomplished a lot, but not nearly enough. I brought that box home to work on tonight. Obviously, I don't always have realistic expectations.

Sloane's main Christmas gift was repainting her room from pink to blue, her new favorite color. Plus, she got a wall of shelves. I think she likes it.

Though we made beautiful changes to Sloane's bedroom, read a lot, even played outside in 70 degree weather, our main event for today was a walk. A long, long walk. Sloane had been wanting to spend a day taking a family walk, and today was that day. There is just something about walking that creates a wonderful atmosphere for talking. No matter what we do, we always seem to have fun together. Today was a good day.

My dear friend and Sloane's honorary Aunt Katie was our hostess for a perfect Art Date. She met us with smiles and hugs and fresh-from-the-oven cinnamon bread. We were showered with presents and love. Eventually we went to her art-crammed studio and got busy creating. Sloane wore her mermaid crown while she created a magic wand and a bunny art tag. I wore a smile while I finished my Possibility sign. Katie bustled around helping, providing supplies and encouragement, and being her usual angel self. I had so many pictures to choose from. In the end I decided on a peek into Katie's gorgeous home. The words are a perfect summation of our day and our friendship.

This is what I've been longing for. Quiet. Peace. Time to sit alone and enjoy the beauty of our Christmas tree. Jeffrey and Sloane are asleep. Soon I'll be joining them.
